Work and Asbestos-Related Diseases, Part One
By Hector Milla

Symptoms of lung cancer, asbestosis or other asbestos - related diseases may include chronic cough and hoarseness, wheezing, chest pain, weight loss, fatigue, loss of appetite, dysphonia, coughing up blood and shortness of breath.

If you think that you may have an asbestos - related disease because you worked exposed to asbestos many years and you show any of the symptoms above mentioned, you should visit a specialist doctor to be explored by him and decide whether you need more exams or not.

The doctor may send you for a chest x-ray or chest computed tomography (CT) scan, to determine the existence of lung scars, and pulmonary function test (PFT), to measure the power of your breathing.

Workers with asbestos benign diseases should visit their doctors regularly, because they have higher risks of getting ill of more serious cancer pathology. Therefore, these patients may be send to specialists like a lung expert or an occupational health doctor. (note: other specialists could be helpful too).

Overall, these workers can keep working, but if they do not feel sick, as research states that these patients will avoid more harm to their lungs if the amount of asbestos dust is kept low.

But if the doctor thinks that is better to have no more contact with asbestos or if you have another illness or disability, you may not be able to keep working.

Is so difficult to say you do not must to work on asbestos related jobs, because you need to work if you want to pay the bills, but in this case your decision could have many risks. On the other hand, there is many alternatives for asbestos compensations, so you need to find an specialist lawyer in this subject, this could be very useful if you decided not to be asbestos worker any more.

Mesothelioma Diagnosis - Four Tests May Confirm Asbestos Cancer
By Dave Casey

Getting your mesothelioma diagnosis is just the beginning of your journey, but there s a lot to learn before you hear the official word from your doctor. To be absolutely sure that you have been exposed and affected by asbestos, you need to have a battery of tests that will help you and your doctor feel certain about your mesothelioma diagnosis.

Here are some of the most common ways of testing for mesothelioma in your body, starting from the least invasive test to the most invasive:

Chest X-Ray A chest x-ray is simply a way to take a picture of your lungs without having to do anything invasive. From this x-ray film, a doctor will be able to diagnose if there is any thickening of the lung tissue, which is often a sign of mesothelioma. If you ve been recently exposed to asbestos, this may not show up immediately, but these kinds of results do signify that something dangerous is happening to the lung tissue.

CT Scan If the initial chest x-ray looks suspicious, the next usual step is a CT scan. If a CT is not available, a doctor may also order an MRI. What this does is point out the fluids that are present in the body. If there is a lot of fluid in the lungs, it may be a sign of a mesothelioma diagnosis and asbestos exposure.

Pleural and Peritoneal Aspiration

When the CT or the MRI shows a lot of fluid in these parts of the body, you can also aspirate, or draw out the fluid with a needle to see if it contains any cancerous cells. This sample is sent to pathology for examination, but if there are no cancerous cells, that doesn t mean that you re necessarily in the clear either. It can mean that you have some other diagnosis than mesothelioma.

Biopsy If you have an obvious mass in your lungs or in your abdominal cavity, the doctor might want to take a part of it to examine for cancerous cells, called a biopsy. This allows the doctor to see if the cancer has spread to this part of the body.

With these various tests and procedures, a doctor will be gathering the evidence needed to make a conclusive mesothelioma diagnosis. There may actually be something else going on that s simply similar to the symptoms you may be having, so you want to rule out mesothelioma cancer as a possibility.

The Best Asbestos Attorneys
By Eddie Tobey

Although many attorneys claim to have succeeded in asbestos lawsuits, not all of them can be categorized as the best asbestos attorneys. The best asbestos attorneys are those with years of experience and an enviable success rate. They can salvage compensations to the tune of millions. Less experienced attorneys may manage to succeed in a lawsuit, but often they may not be able to recover adequate compensation.

There are many sources to look for the best of asbestos attorneys. Bar associations, the Internet, and yellow pages are reliable sources. Many of the best asbestos attorneys are members of reputed statewide and nationwide attorney networks specializing in industrial hazard and worker compensation lawsuits. A good approach to finding a qualified asbestos attorney is to consult a trusted lawyer who can give you a good referral. The lawyer gets a referral fee for this service.

The best asbestos attorneys are an experienced lot. Their vast experience gives them a good judgment of the compensation amount that can be recovered from construction companies. Moreover, these veteran attorneys often have strong political connections, which assist them in getting the job done efficiently. Asbestos attorneys usually charge their fees on contingency basis, in which a portion of the compensation amount is claimed as fee. This percentage is negotiable, but most experienced attorneys usually do not allow any reduction. The high fee of the asbestos attorney is acceptable in most cases because you stand in good stead to win your case by assigning it to an experienced attorney. The best asbestos attorneys do not settle for an initial compensation amount. They carry on lawsuits to extract maximum compensation from the opponent. The best asbestos attorneys thus ensure that their clients get maximum possible damages.

Legal Help for Asbestos Exposure
By Nathalie Fiset

Lawyers are the most helpful people you can turn to when you need legal help. It may not exactly be the most loved profession but they will always drive you through your case, whether it ends up on a full trial or if you are opting for a settlement. They may at times show no conscience but they are the ones standing before and beside you during the trial, helping you in all ways possible to make the case strong and win it.

If you are suffering from symptoms and aggravated conditions of any diseases related to asbestos exposure, you are due for compensation. Of course, the lawyers will not be able to undo the damage done by mesothelioma or asbestosis but legal help can assure you that justice can be brought into its right place. Maybe not the exact justice you want, as this will have relative meanings, but at least you have a high chance for the compensation that is due you. The compensation you get will help you manage the disease and other consequential issues.

The law on mesothelioma says that companies who willingly expose their workmen to asbestos are subject to compensation. Compensation can be received in various ways but the best way is to seek legal help and hire a reputable attorney.

There are certain guidelines that you must be mindful about when seeking compensation for asbestos exposure.

For one, you and your attorney need to establish a strong case. This is to ensure that you will win the case. Also, you cannot win the case if you cannot support your claims. For example, you have to know all the details of the exposure. What were the conditions that lead you to asbestos exposure and what were the roles of the company of the product s in exposing you to this dangerous materials. You should also be mindful to present concrete evidence. You should also be able to remember what were the conditions of the medium of exposure. If you have worked for an asbestos mining company or any workplace that used large amounts of asbestos, you should be able to remember all the details that will make the claims strong and all these should be directly related to the accused parties. If you think that the asbestos exposure came from a product, you must give the details as to the product s name, the manufacturer or distributor of the product and what were the consequences that lead to the exposure.

Asbestos exposure is not a good enough reason to file a case, you must establish concrete and substantial details before your case is absolutely admitted to the court and you can never do this without legal help.

Further, if you are filing a case against an asbestos company or any large group of people, it is recommended that you file an asbestos or mesothelioma lawsuit as a class. Remember that some large companies get protection from certain courts and there are quite a lot of restrictions and changes in the law at any given time.

It is also good to remember that large companies may have had previous asbestos law suits. In this case, they are more experienced in defending and maneuvering the law towards their victory. So it is just proper that you get a very highly regarded mesothelioma, asbestos or personal injury lawyer to handle your case. This way, he will have more resources and influence to investigate, bring to court and defend your asbestos exposure case.

You do not have to worry, however, about the personal expenses the lawsuit would incur. Personal injury lawsuits, such as mesothelioma, asbestos or any asbestos-related injuries do not require a fee. The lawyers are only paid through a contingency basis, usually relying on the percentage agreed between the attorney and the client.

Details you will be giving the lawyers and investigators will be their focal points in establishing the asbestos exposure case. Without these elements, your case will be weak and the chance of compensation is rather low.

Legal help for asbestos exposure is quite easy to get as there are plenty asbestos exposure lawsuits filed before and there are a number of lawyers focusing on types of cases like personal injury.

Some Facts About Asbestos
By Laura Russell

While tracing the history of asbestos it was found that its usage dates back to 2000 years. The name ‘asbestos’ was first used by the Greeks, which meant ‘inextinguishable’. Though the Greeks also noted the harmful effect of asbestos, yet they did not pay any heed to its dangers because according to them it had magical powers that had to be used to fulfill the daily purposes of life.

The Roman naturalist Pliny and the Greek geographer Strabo also noted the devastating effect of asbestos on human beings but they did not arise any questions considering its several magical uses in their regular life.

Some Facts about Asbestos What is Asbestos? Asbestos is the term given to a collection of six naturally occurring minerals that are incombustible and separable into filaments. These six minerals are chrysotile, amosite, crocidolite, anthophyllite, termolite and actinolite. Among these six asbestos minerals, the first three are abundantly used in manufacturing of industrial and commercial products.

Uses of Asbestos Asbestos was being used since ancient Greek times and its usage continued till 1700, but it was popularized after the Industrial Revolution. It was used in construction mainly in steel pipes, industries, steam pipes, hand held hair dryers to prevent over heating, household items and in several other industries for various purposes.

Versatility of Asbestos The reason for the popularity of asbestos was its power of resistance to electricity and its fire and heat proofing capacities. Being a fireproof or incombustible material, asbestos is impervious to every weather effect. This high tensile strength and flexibility makes asbestos very versatile for usage in various products and industries.

Diseases caused by Asbestos One of the deadliest diseases caused by asbestos is mesothelioma cancer. It has become a threat to human civilization causing pain, suffering and loss of thousands of lives. The mortality rate is so high that eight out of ten mesothelioma patients pass away even before the treatment starts. It is a deadly cancer caused mainly to those who are exposed to asbestos in some way.

The other deadly disease caused by asbestos is asbestosis, a serious form of lung illness. The main symptoms of asbestosis are short breath after exercise or exertion, dry prolonged cough, general malaise or feeling tired and wheezing.

Treatment of Diseases caused by Asbestos Being a form of cancer, all the traditional cancer treatments are applied to treat mesothelioma. Surgery for cutting out the affected part of the lungs, chemotherapy to attack the cancer cells or radiation to kill the cancerous cells are the only treatments for mesothelioma cancer. However, newer and better modes of treatments are being worked out to help mesothelioma patients.

Diagnosis for asbestosis is necessary in its early stage as prolonged asbestosis can turn into mesothelioma cancer later in life. Regular intake of the prescribed medicine and check-up can help a lot. But the life span decreases on its own as the disease is diagnosed a long time after exposure to asbestos.

Legal Claims for Asbestosis and Mesothelioma
An asbestosis or mesothelioma legal claim can be filed on your behalf if your disease is caused by exposure to asbestos. An attorney will investigate how much asbestos containing material you were exposed to, who were the employers and what proper safety measures were taken for your health. This claim can be made against the construction company, the asbestos suppliers and even the individuals who were responsible to look after your health safety.

Mesothelioma Information Asbestos Cancer: Let s Inform the World
By Ermenegildo Billar

Mesothelioma is known to be produced by exposing yourself to asbestos during a long period of time. A period of time hundreds and thousands of mine and shipyard workers are exposed while they work hard. The first case of mesothelioma ever to be linked with asbestos remotes as early as the 1890s. Almost a full century passed until the first mesothelioma lawsuit was filed against asbestos manufacturers in the US.

Information Denial

Mesothelioma information and asbestos cancer information was practically refrained from workers causing them to get infected throughout the years without even knowing what was mesothelioma. Some asbestos producing companies even sent out memos about abstaining to inform their workers about the illness until they were already infected with mesothelioma.

It is no wonder why there are some many people now a day with pleural and peritoneal mesothelioma. Pleural mesothelioma affects the lungs tissue, while peritoneal mesothelioma affects the abdomen.

Mesothelioma Treatments

There is no known cure to mesothelioma cancer but doctors and scientists are making a huge effort to try and finding it. Currently there are various mesothelioma treatments but don t ultimately cure it.

Mesothelioma is a serious disease and serious attempt should be made to inform the American people about what is going on. Mesothelioma lawsuits have been filed and won by thousands of people infected. With the right mesothelioma information, asbestos manufactures shouldn t have to pay billions in compensation for mesothelioma infected workers.

Preventable Crisis

This is an illness that can be 100% preventable and many companies knew that. The only thing is that they were too busy focusing in making billions out of blood money that they forgot to care about their workers.

After certain events in his life, Ermenegildo Billar has dedicated years of his life to understanding and helping people with the malignant mesothelioma. For your comfort he decided to create http://www.infothelioma.com so you can have easy access to his research.

What is Asbestos and Where Did People Use this Material?
By Nikoletta Bocz

Asbestos is a group of fibrous metamorphic minerals of the hydrous magnesium silicate variety. Types of asbestos: chrysotile, amosite, crocidolite, tremolite, actinolite and anthophyllite.
Most asbestos fibers are invisible to the human eye because their size.

Fibers ultimately form because when these minerals originally cooled and crystallized, they formed by the polymeric molecules lining up parallel with each other and forming oriented crystal lattices.

As they get smaller and lighter, they become more mobile and more easily get into the air, where human can imbibe them.
The inhalation of some kinds of asbestos fibers however causes various serious illnesses, including asbestosis, mesothelioma, and asbestos related lung cancer, and thus most uses of asbestos are banned in many countries.

In the ancient times asbestos was of high value as the gold. Emperors and kings had napkins made of it. Others used asbestos to make perpetual wicks for sepulchral lamps.

Amosite and crocidolite were used in many products until the early 1980s. For example: low density insulation board and ceiling tiles, asbestos cement sheets and pipes for construction, casing for water and electrical/telecommunication services, and thermal and chemical insulation.

In the United States used chrysolit mainly for the following products: sheetrock taping, mud and texture coats, vinyl floor tiles, adhesives and ceiling tiles, plasters and stuccos, roofing tars, “transite” panels, acoustical ceilings, fireproofing, putty, caulk, gaskets, brake pads, clutch plates, stage curtains and fire blankets.

Peritoneal Mesothelioma - Asbestos Lung Cancer & Side Effects
By Todd Going

When a group of cells mutates uncontrollably and starts invading and killing healthy cells, this is called cancer. In certain areas of the body where cells reproduce rapidly there tends to be a greater chance of risk because one cancer cell can multiply exponentially in a very quick period of time. Most cancers are caused by external stimuli and mesothelioma is no different. Mesothelioma cancer is caused by exposure to carcinogens such as asbestos.

Mesothelioma is an extremely nasty and permanent cancer that infects the membrane surrounding most internal organs. It is also a very subtle form of cancer providing only a few noticeable symptoms until it becomes extremely advanced. The most common type of mesothelioma is called pleural mesothelioma. It causes shortness of breath and/or chronic coughing that can easily be mixed up with allergies or a common cold. In many cases mesothelioma is discovered by accident when patients are looking into these symptoms. Other symptoms of pleural mesothelioma include:

Pleural mesothelioma represents 75% of mesothelioma cases - but it is far from the only type of this deadly cancer. Peritoneal mesothelioma affects the lining around the stomach and intestines, and is just as dangerous and deadly. Common symptoms include:
Weight loss - but waist may increase in size.
Pain or swelling in the abdomen - fluid retention or tumor growth.
Bowel obstruction - blockage in the small or large intestine.
Anemia - a reduction in the number of red blood cells to below normal this forces the heart and other organs to work harder to get oxygen where it s needed.
Fever
Usually, the first test run by a doctor will use a device called a thorascope. The procedure is called thorascopy and is done by creating a small incision in the chest, and taking a sample of lung tissue to see if it’s cancerous or not. This procedure is performed at a hospital using local anesthesia and will cause a small amount of pain. There will also be a check for an excess amount of fluid which may be drained to ease the pressure and reduce pain.

If these tests are inconclusive, there will be more advanced test performed such as a Computed Axial Tomography (CAT) scan to give doctors a 3D X-ray of the tissues. This will allow the doctors to analyze the potentially damaged areas. Another option is an MRI (magnetic resonance imaging scan). An MRI will take cross-section pictures of internal structures to separate healthy tissues from malignant ones. These two scans will allow doctors to be able and see potential dangers long before the patient feels any symptoms.

Mesothelioma Asbestos Lawyers
By Ken Marlborough

Recent years have witnessed a tremendous rise in mesothelioma cases across the US. The unprecedented rise in mesothelioma cases has bred a new set of specialized lawyers who are competent in dealing with mesothelioma and asbestos lawsuits. These lawyers often deal exclusively with mesothelioma victims who wish to claim compensation from errant companies that were responsible for their exposure to asbestos. By filing a solid lawsuit, competent lawyers help victims collect millions of dollars in compensation for their families.

Asbestos lawyers are specialists, and the best ones who can bring a successful lawsuit for victims. Experienced asbestos lawyers are in great demand all across the US. Most victims affected by asbestos can easily find a local lawyer with a little research. Apart from the lawyers, there are also specialized firms that offer a comprehensive range of services to the victims.

There are certain essential rules that victims need to follow after selecting an asbestos lawyer or firm. It is advisable you should not expect immediate answers to all your queries in one go. Rather, it is advisable that you work out a series of meetings with your lawyer so that the lawsuit firms up properly. Lawyers usually assess each case on its own merits, and the course of action can be determined by any number of factors. An inability to identify the right source of asbestos infection may eat into your time and also lead to an unsuccessful lawsuit. Next, you should be able to provide comprehensive information to your lawyer so that he is able to process your case faster. Be frank to your lawyer while discussing your case, and avoid providing half-done descriptions.

It is also understood that victims often remain depressed as soon as they learn about the disease, and so it is advisable for victims to take along a family member to discuss the intricate details with the lawyers. Most asbestos lawyers work on a contingency fee basis, which means that you need not pay anything until you receive the compensation. In case of an unsuccessful lawsuit, you do not have to pay anything.

Mesothelioma Asbestos
By Leeman Taylor

What is Mesothelioma Asbestos?

Mesothelioma is a rare form of cancer caused by exposure to asbestos. Asbestos is a naturally-occurring fiber, that, when released into the air, can be inhaled or swallowed. Asbestos has no smell or taste, and asbestos fibers are so tiny that they are not visible to the naked eye. Asbestos fibers can “stick” in the lung, abdomen and other body tissues and over time, lead to the development of asbestos-related diseases like mesothelioma.

The generic name “asbestos” belongs to a group of minerals called “asbestiform” minerals. Asbestos is a fibrous material which is mined from serpentine rock. Basically, rock was mined and crushed. When the rock was crushed, fibrous stands of asbestos were extracted from the rock. The strands where put in bags and shipped to manufacturing facilities were the asbestos was used as an ingredient in insulation and other materials. The three most commonly used forms of asbestos in product manufacturing were chrysotile, amosite and crocidolite.

Mesothelioma Treatment!

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a new mesothelioma treatment based on the theory that single celled organisms die when exposed to certain frequency of light. Photosensitive drugs are administered intravenously. In a couple of days, the drug concentrates on the diseased cell and kills it. Skin sensitivity, nausea and vomiting can be some of the side effects.

Immunotherapy(biological therapy) is another new way to treat mesothelioma. Immunotherapy will try to rejuvenate the immune system and there by improving the natural immune system which is the most effective way to fight any disease. The therapy also repairs the immune systems that are faulty. Biological response modifiers (BRMs) are the substances used in immunotherapy. BRMs naturally develop in the body but it can now be prepared in laboratory and is found to give the same effect as the natural ones.

Treatments with the combinations of surgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy, are being researched studied. Heated intraoperative intraperitoneal chemotherapy and use of pemetrexed drug, brand named Alimta, are some of the new developments in the treatment of mesothelioma.
